UCCS Women Take Fourth at RMAC Championships

Shannon Payne finished fourth to lead the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to a fourth-place finish at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday at Chatfield State Park in Denver.

For her effort, Payne was named All-RMAC.

The Mountain Lions finished with 79 points, just five behind third place Colorado School of Mines and eight behind Western State. Adams State dominated the event with just 22 points to win its fourth straight RMAC title and 20th overall.

The RMAC Championships were a who's who of the national Top 10, with No. 1-ranked Adams State, No. 5 Colorado School of Mines, No. 6 UCCS and No. 7 Western State taking the top four spots.

UCCS' other scoring runners were Sarah Shepard (25:18, 12th), Ashley Birger (25:43, 17th), Megan Lund (25:55, 18th) and Addie Devine (27:00, 28th).

Lisa Short (27:18), Kristen Anderson (28:08), Jessica Hudson (28:55) and Leslie Bennett (28:57) also competed for UCCS but did not factor into the scoring.

Adams State's Emily Mortensen was the individual winner with a time of 23:35.
