By Doug Fitzgerald published September 22, 2005

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs sophomore Shannon Payne was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's cross country runner of the week, the conference announced Thursday.

Payne was the top Division II finisher by more than a minute at Saturday's Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.

Finishing the 6K course in a time of 21:13, Payne beat over 40 Division I runners and was third overall in the 277-runner field. She scored just two team points for the Mountain Lions as they finished third in the 31-team meet. The next closest Division II finisher was her teammate, Sarah Shepard (22:31).

This is the second time that Payne has been selected as RMAC Runner of the Week (Sept. 8).
