Shepard Leads Women's Cross Country to Fourth-Place Finish
Sarah Shepard led the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Division I-laden Wyoming Invitational on Friday.
Shepard took sixth place individually at the 2.5 mile course at Jacoby Golf Course in Laramie, Wyo., with a time of 15 minutes, 21 seconds. She was only 15 seconds out of second place.
The meet's host, Wyoming, won the team competition. Colorado State took second, Air Force third, CU-Colorado Springs fourth and Northern Colorado fifth.
Colorado State's Danielle Korb beat her nearest competitor by 20 seconds to win the individual competition. Wyoming runners Jennifer Thompson and Gretchen Fagley took second and third, respectively.
CU-Colorado Springs freshman Shannon Payne finished eighth in her first collegiate competition. Other scoring runner for the Mountain Lions were Tina Gray (28th/16:12), Chelsey Cerrillo (37th/16:49), and Kari Samuelson (38th/16:58).
Also competing for CU-Colorado Springs were Crystal Ross (43rd/17:06), Jessica Urban (53rd/17:55), Sheena Henderson (58th/18:20) and Whitney Lund (60th/18:23).
