UCCS Sets Program Record with 17th Win of Season
CHADRON, Neb. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs never trailed and saw scoring production from 11 different student-athletes to set the program record for wins in a season with a 90-84 victory against Chadron State (10-14 / 7-13 RMAC) tonight in Armstrong Gymnasium. It was the eighth straight win for the Mountain Lions (17-6 / 14-5 RMAC), which matches the longest winning streak in program history
UCCS, ranked No. 10 in the first NCAA Division II South Central Region Rankings, scored in the first 10 seconds and kept Chadron State from making a field goal for nearly the first four minutes. Darius Pardner scored nine straight points for the Mountain Lions to push the advantage to 22-8 with 10:15 left in the first half. UCCS shot 59 percent from the field in the half and led 48-36 at the break.
Chadron State opened the second half on an 18-8 run in the first six minutes to pull within two points of the Mountain Lions at 56-54. UCCS responded with a 14-2 run to take a 70-56 lead, and maintained at least a seven-point advantage until the final seconds of the game.
Derrick White led both teams with 24 points in his 11th 20-point game of the season. He moved into eighth in UCCS career scoring records with 885 points in less than two full seasons, and will need one point on Saturday to move into a tie for seventh. White also improved his career free throw total to 324, two away from tying the program record for made free throws.
Alex Welsh and Pardner each finished with 12 points, and Dalton Patten added 10 points to round out the leading scorers. White led both teams with eight rebounds as UCCS finished with more than 40 team rebounds for the 15th time this season.
