White Sets Blocked Shots Record in Win at Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. - Derrick White scored a game-high 27 points and blocked a program record six shots to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (8-3 / 5-2 RMAC) to an 101-93 victory against Colorado State-Pueblo (6-5 / 4-3 RMAC) in Massari Arena. It was the first 100-point game for the Mountain Lions since December 2011.

Alex Welsh recorded his second straight double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Tim Billingsley added 18 points for the Mountain Lions. UCCS shot better than 50 percent from the field for the fourth straight game and finished with 54 percent as a team tonight.

The Mountain Lions took an early seven-point lead during the first five minutes, but it turned into a back-and-forth game in the final 15 minutes of the half with six ties and six lead changes after that early lead. Both teams went into halftime tied at 49-49. Dalton Patten nearly had a double-double at halftime with nine points and eight rebounds at the break.

The game stayed within a six-point margin for the first 10 minutes of the second half before Billingsley opened a seven-point lead for the Mountain Lions on a three-pointer with nine minutes to play. The ThunderWolves cut it down to five points several times, the last time with 4:36 remaining, but the Mountain Lions made five of their six free throws in the final minute for the victory.

White's six blocked shots broke the record of five blocked shots set by four different Mountain Lions in program history. White also recorded his third 20-point game of the season and his fourth straight 10-point game.

Patten finished one rebound shy of his second double-double of the season, and TreShawn Wilford led the bench with 10 points for his second double-digit game of his freshman season.

The win matches the best start in program history with the 8-3 start of the 2006-07 season, and it snaps a three-game losing streak in the series again CSU-Pueblo. The victory also matches the win total from the 2011-12 season and is tied for the ninth most wins in a season in program history.

Up Next: UCCS will remain on the road for a trip to the Western Slope next week. The Mountain Lions will take on Western State on Thursday night, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m., in Gunnison. The Mountaineers (0-12 / 0-8 RMAC) fell 90-58 tonight to Colorado Christian.
