Mountain Lions Go For Season Sweep of Adams on Friday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After knocking off one of the top teams in the conference, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will look to continue the momentum in the final stretches of the regular season when the Mountain Lions (8-12 / 7-9 RMAC) host Adams State on Friday night. Tip-off from the Gallogly Events Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
UCCS is coming off a 67-57 win against Colorado State-Pueblo last Saturday in the Second Annual Downtown Classic at the historic Colorado Springs City Auditorium. Jessika Kienitz led the Mountain Lions in scoring and assists as UCCS shot better than 50 percent from the field for the third time this season and first time in 2014. She also led the team with seven rebounds against the ThunderWolves.
The Mountain Lions are going for their second straight season sweep of Adams State on Friday. UCCS won the first game this season 72-54 in Alamosa, Colo., on Dec. 7, led by 28 points from Abby Kirchoff. The 54 points are the second-fewest allowed by the Mountain Lions this season, while the 53.3 field goal percentage against the Grizzlies is the second-best this season.
A strong offensive night from Kirchoff could be enough to move her into fourth in career scoring records. She has 1,197 points in just less than three seasons, and needs 24 points to tie Tara Newton for fourth. Her 443 points this season is already second in junior season records and sixth in overall scoring records, and she is on pace to break the season scoring average record by nearly three points per game.
The Grizzlies are coming off a 56-52 home win last Saturday night against Western New Mexico, but will be looking to snap a four-game road losing streak. Mariah Gonzales is leading Adams State with 10.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game and came within a rebound of her third double-double of the season last Friday night against New Mexico Highlands.
Fans can follow Friday's game for free with live stats from UCCS and with live audio on the Mountain Lion YouTube page. Live pay-per-view video streaming will also be available through America One Sports. M.J. Arjomandi will call the action for the YouTube and America One broadcast feeds.
