Mountain Lions Take on Cowgirls to End New Mexico Trip
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will go for the season sweep of New Mexico Highlands for the second straight season when the Mountain Lions (7-11 / 6-8 RMAC) face the Cowgirls (8-10 / 4-10 RMAC) at 6 p.m., at the Joe A. Wilson Complex.
UCCS won the first meeting between the two teams 77-55 on Dec. 20, led by 18 points and nine rebounds from Abby Kirchoff. The Mountain Lions shot 59 percent from the field and never trailed against the Cowgirls when the teams met in the Gallogly Events Center.
Kirchoff moved into No. 10 in season scoring records last night with a game-high 17 points and has 402 points this season. If she scores her season average of 22 points, she'll move into eighth in season records. Kirchoff can move into a tie for seventh in overall records and second in junior season records with 27 points, set by UCCS Hall of Fame student-athlete Stephanie Frisch in the 1997-98 season.
New Mexico Highlands will be looking for its first conference win in four games, but the Cowgirls have won three of their last four home games. China Smith is averaging a double-double with 11.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, but was held to three points last night at the free throw line.
Fans can follow tonight's game through live stats from New Mexico Highlands or through pay-per-view video streaming from America One Sports.
