Kirchoff Extends Double-Digit Scoring Streak at Western N.M.
SILVER CITY, N.M. - Abby Kirchoff extended her double-digit scoring streak with a game-high 17 points as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (7-11 / 6-8 RMAC) fell on the road 77-62 to Western New Mexico (9-10 / 6-8 RMAC) at the WNMU Fieldhouse.
Gabby Ramirez scored nine points in the first five minutes to push UCCS to a 17-11 lead, and Jessika Kienitz made in a nine-point advantage on the next possession. Ramirez finished the game with 12 points for her best offensive performance since Dec. 20.
The Mustangs answered with an 11-point rally to take a 22-19 advantage with 10:47 left in the first half, and McKenna Haist evened the score at 22 with her first three-pointer in nearly two months. She made her second three-pointer less than two minutes later to put UCCS back ahead at 27-24 with 9:08 to play. It was her best performance from the arc this season and matched her career-high in made three-pointers.
The Mountain Lions kept it a back-and-forth game for the next five minutes, but Western New Mexico closed out the half with a 12-0 run for a 43-31 advantage at the break.
Kirchoff scored 13 points for UCCS in the second half, after missing most of the first half with two early fouls. The second-half performance secured her 24th straight game with at least 10 points and she moved into No. 10 in UCCS season records with 402 points this season.
Kienitz finished with a career-high six assists and shared the team lead of five rebounds with Sam Patterson. Ramirez matched her career-high with three steals.
Up Next: UCCS will conclude its weekend trip through New Mexico at New Mexico Highlands at 6 p.m., Saturday night. The Cowgirls fell to Colorado State-Pueblo 67-51 tonight.
