Downtown Classic will Feature New Playing Surface
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Second Annual Downtown Classic on Feb. 8, will feature new flooring for the basketball doubleheader between the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and Colorado State-Pueblo. The floor project was completed by Greeneco Hardwoods of Peyton, Colo.
A majority of the project for sanding and painting was completed in three days from Jan. 11-13, and the final finish layers were applied on Jan. 13-15. The court features both NCAA and high school marks and is positioned to provide adequate space for game operations and team benches on the west side. The court retained the volleyball lines used primarily by Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation and the roller derby lines used by the Pikes Peak Derby Dames.
Additional improvements for the game will include a new scoreboard system from Daktronics and a new basketball hoop system from Porter. All of the improvements will make the facility fully compliant with NCAA regulations.
Tickets for the Second Annual Downtown Classic are still on sale, and can be purchased online through GoMountainLions.com. UCCS faculty, staff and students can pick up their tickets at the University Center Information Desk when the desk is open.
