Vote for the UCCS Athlete of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs fans can provide their voice for the Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group UCCS Athlete of the Week. Voting will take place each week when the Mountain Lions are in action, and will take place throughout the UCCS Athletics social media platforms.
Voting for this week will end at 10 a.m., on Jan. 22, with the announcement to follow at 3 p.m. Fans can vote online through GoMountainLions.com, on Facebook at facebook.com/GoMountainLions, on Twitter at @GoMountainLions, and on Instagram at GoMountainLions. Fans can vote on each platform through Wednesday morning.
Fans will select the first Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group Athlete of the Week between Abby Kirchoff of the women's basketball team, Derrick White of the men's basketball team, Alexa Urban of the women's track and field team and Jonathan Wright of the men's track and field team:
- Abby Kirchoff improved to fifth in UCCS career scoring records this weekend and recorded her 20th 20-point game of her career and the 10th this season against Colorado Mines on Friday. She is seventh in Division II with 23.3 points per game this season.
- Derrick White came two assists of a triple-double against Colorado Christian with 28 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. It was the second double-double of his career. He improved to fourth in UCCS career records for free throws made during the week and is fifth in the RMAC this season with 19.2 points per game.
- Jonathan Wright finished second in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at the Adams State Open on Saturday. He was the top attached collegiate finisher in the 400-meter dash and came within a half-second of a provisional time for the national championships. He is leading the RMAC in the 40-meter dash and is a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that is ranked second in the conference.
- Alexa Urban won the 600-yard run and was a member of the winning 4x400-meter relay team at the CU-Boulder Potts Invitational on Saturday. She is sixth in the RMAC in the 800-meter run from earlier this season.
