COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will go for its sixth straight win of the series tonight when the Mountain Lions (4-7 / 3-4 RMAC) take on Western State (5-8 / 5-3) tonight at Paul Wright Gym. Tip-off in Gunnison, Colo., is set for 5:30 p.m.

UCCS hasn't lost to Western State since 2009, and haven't lost to the Mountaineers in Gunnison since 2007. Western State started the conference season with four straight wins and would be in line to host a first round game of the RMAC Shootout if the tournament started today.

The Mountain Lions closed out the 2013 calendar year with a pair of wins against New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico, and came within a point of forcing overtime in a loss to Colorado State-Pueblo last Saturday. The Mountaineer split the opening weekend of 2014 with a win at Colorado Mines and loss at Colorado Christian.

Abby Kirchoff is on pace to smash the UCCS single-season record for points per game. She is third in NCAA Division II this season with 24.4 points per game, and would set the previous program record of 19.4 points per game set by Jennine Sauter in 2005-06. If she maintains her average throughout the rest of the regular season, she would set the single season scoring record for total points by nearly 100 points.

Head Coach Corey Laster has the chance to move up in the UCCS coaching wins records with a 2-0 weekend. His 50 wins is third in program records, and two wins would move him into a tie with Dave Murphy's 52 wins, set from 1999-2002. Laster has won all five of his games against Western State in his UCCS career.

Jade McIntosh has led the Mountaineer offense in five of the last six games and is averaging 16.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Cara Walderman is averaging six rebounds per games and has 17 steals to lead the defense. Western State has already equaled its win total from last season at the midway point of the season.

Fans will be able to follow tonight's game with live stats from Western State and pay-per-view video streaming from America One Sports.
