Welsh Earns Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group Athlete of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomore forward Alex Welsh of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team is the Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group Athlete of the Week for Jan. 27-Feb. 2. He was part of an offense that went 2-0 last weekend in New Mexico.
Welsh averaged 17.5 points per game against Western New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands and came within a rebound of a double-double against the Cowboys last Saturday night. He shot 57 percent from the field last weekend and is fourth in the RMAC with 51.8 percent from the field this season.
Welsh is ninth in the conference with 6.6 rebounds per game as part of a defense that leads the conference with 42.4 rebounds per game and second with a rebounding margin of +9.2. The Mountain Lions have outrebounded opponents by at least 10 rebounds in every game of the current four-game winning streak.
