Mountain Lions Win 11th Game of Season 92-82 Against Eagles
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Dalton Patten recorded his second double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and was one of four Mountain Lions to score 10 or more points to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to a 92-82 win against Chadron State (7-10 / 4-9 RMAC) tonight in the Gallogly Events Center.
The Mountain Lions (11-6 / 8-5 RMAC) matched their total wins from the 2009-10 season and moved into fourth in program win records. The win also moved UCCS into a tie for fourth in the RMAC standings with 10 games left in the regular season.
UCCS took a six-point lead in four-and-a-half minutes, but Chadron State put together a 10-0 run midway through the first half to lead 23-17 with 7:34 left before halftime. The Mountain Lions answered with their own 15-point rally in a three-minute span to take a 32-23 lead, maintained that nine-point advantage at the end of the half, 42-33.
Chadron State opened the second half with a 7-2 run to close the gap to 44-40, and kept it a four-point game at 48-44 with 15:58 to play. UCCS scored on its next four possessions to open an 11-point lead with 13:49 to play, and stayed at least nine points ahead of the Eagles for the final 11 minutes en route to the win.
Alex Welsh led both teams with 21 points and five assists. He added eight rebounds to Patten's game-high 10 boards to help lead the Mountain Lions to a 19-rebound advantage against the Eagles. Derrick White scored 18 points in 19 minutes of action, and TreShawn Wilford led the bench with a season-high 17 points.
UCCS shot 50 percent from the field for the eighth time this season and finished with a double-digit rebounding advantage for the 10th time this season. The 6-2 home record for the Mountain Lions matches the best home start in program history with the 2006-07 and 1997-98 seasons.
Up Next: UCCS will be on the road next Friday night for a 7:30 p.m., game at Western New Mexico. The Mountain Lions won the first meeting between the two teams 82-66 in the Gallogly Events Center on Dec. 21.
