Mountain Lions' Undefeated Home Mark on the Line Friday Night
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team (9-4 / 6-3 RMAC) will defend an undefeated home record when the Mountain Lions host No. 13 Colorado Mines (12-1 / 8-1 RMAC) on Friday at 7:30 p.m., in the Gallogly Events Center.
Friday will be a meeting of two of the top rebounding teams and two of the more balanced offensive teams in the RMAC. UCCS has a rebounding margin of +9.8, second only to Colorado Mines' +10.6, and the Mountain Lions have four student-athletes averaging in double figures, second in the conference only to the five Orediggers averaging 10 or more points. Both teams are also at the top of the conference in field goal percentage defense, and both teams rank in the top five of the RMAC in scoring offense.
The Mountain Lions came within a second of coming into Friday's game with a six-game winning streak, after falling at the buzzer to Colorado Mesa last Friday night. UCCS has shot better than 45 percent and scored at least 80 points in the six-game span since Dec. 13.
A win on Friday night would be the first 10-win season for the Mountain Lions in four seasons, and move UCCS into a tie for fifth in program season wins. A win would also move the Mountain Lions within a win of the 6-0 home start of the 2006-07 season.
Derrick White has scored at least 20 points in the last three games and is on pace to break into the top 10 career scoring records by the end of the regular season. His 18.5 points per game would put him into sixth in UCCS single-season records, and his 17.4 career points per game would put him into second. White is also leading the team with 5.3 assists per game and is part of an offense that is on pace to break the team record for scoring average.
