White Earns Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group Athlete of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - With more than 70 percent of the online voting, University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore guard Derrick White is the Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group Athlete of the Week for the Dec. 29-Jan. 4 week. White was also the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week after the Mountain Lion men's basketball team opened the 2014 year last Saturday night against Colorado State-Pueblo.
White scored a game-high 27 points and recorded seven assists for UCCS in a 101-93 victory at CSU-Pueblo. He broke the program record for blocked shots with six against the ThunderWolves and finished with seven rebounds. White ranks among the top 10 in the RMAC in five categories, and in the top five for blocked shots and assists.
The Mountain Lions won their fourth straight game of the season and improved to 8-3 overall. UCCS finished with 100 points for the first time in more than two years and matched the best start to a season in program history.
