White Earns RMAC Offensive Player of the Week Award
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore guard Derrick White earned the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week award after leading the Mountain Lions to an 101-93 win at Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday night. It's the first conference player of the week award for him in his career.
White led the offense for both teams with 27 points and seven assists. It was the third 20-point game this season and his fourth straight 10-point game. White also finished with six blocked shots on the defensive side to break the UCCS single-game record.
White is the second Mountain Lion this season to earn one of the weekly awards from the RMAC. Alex Welsh was the Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 18 after UCCS started the season 2-0 against Johnson & Wales and Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Mountain Lions have earned two weekly awards in the same season for the first time since 2006-07, when Patrick Hannaway earned the award twice in his senior season.
The Mountain Lions scored more than 100 points for the first time since December 2011, and are on pace to break the single season record for points per game. UCCS is 8-3 for the second time in program history and the first time since the 2006-07 season.
UCCS will travel again this week for a Thursday-Friday schedule at Western State and Colorado Mesa, respectively. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
