Mountain Lions Take on Cowgirls in Return to Gallogly
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will return to the familiar court at the Gallogly Events Center for the first time in more than a month when the Mountain Lions (2-6 / 1-3 RMAC) take on New Mexico Highlands (4-3 / 1-3 RMAC) at 5:30 p.m.
Abby Kirchoff, who has the fourth-highest scoring average in Division II this season, begins the weekend needing 53 points to become the eighth student-athlete in program history with 1,000 career points. She also needs 34 points to move past Lauren Wolfinger for eighth in career scoring records.
The Mountain Lions won their last home game against California Baptist back on Nov. 16, when the Lancers were receiving votes in the WBCA Division II National Poll. UCCS has a winning record at home dating back to the start of the 2011-12 season and is 4-2 at home against New Mexico Highlands since the 2005-06 season.
Both teams will enter tonight looking to end two-game losing skids. The Cowgirls lost at home last weekend to Western State and No. 5 Colorado Mesa, while the Mountain Lions dropped road contests at Metro State and Regis. New Mexico Highlands started the season with a 3-0 start.
The Cowgirls are led by China Smith's 12.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. New Mexico Highlands leads the RMAC with 20 offensive rebounds per game and is third in rebounding margin with +6.4 this season.
Fans can follow Friday's game with live stats through GoMountainLions.com, live audio through USTREAM and live video through America One Sports. M.J. Arjomandi will call the play-by-play action on both the USTREAM and America One broadcasts.
