Kirchoff Continues to Lead Scoring Effort at Metro State
DENVER, Colo. - Abby Kirchoff led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs scoring effort for the seventh time this season with 19 points as the Mountain Lions (2-5 / 1-2 RMAC) fell 68-56 to Metro State (2-4 / 1-1 RMAC) tonight at the Auraria Events Center.
Metro State scored the first eight points of the game, but the Mountain Lions chipped at the lead and made it a two-point game at the 10-minute media timeout. Both teams stayed within six points of each until the 10-minute timeout in the second half, with UCCS taking a four-point lead early in the second half.
A six-minute scoring drought for the Mountain Lions, which started on the possession before the media timeout, put UCCS down by 12 points at 57-47 with 3:48 remaining. Carrie Christopher ended the stretch with a layup, but the Mountain Lions wouldn't be able to cut it down to less than 10 minutes in the final minutes of the game.
Kirchoff went 11-of-13 at the free throw line and improved her career total to 919 points. She needs 22 points to tie Karen Rants' mark for ninth in UCCS career records. Kirchoff also led the Mountain Lions with six rebounds.
Gabby Ramirez scored eight points in a seven minute span in the first half and added two steals on defense. Shanah Leaf finished with a season-high five rebounds in eight minutes off the bench.
Up Next: UCCS wraps up a six-game road swing at Regis on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Rangers (3-3 / 1-1 RMAC) lost 89-80 to Colorado State-Pueblo tonight.
