UCCS Returns to Auraria Events Center to Face Metro State
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will compete for the third time this season at the Auraria Events Center, but will be able to face the team that calls the arena home for the first time this season when the Mountain Lions (2-4 / 1-1 RMAC) take on Metro State (1-4 / 0-1 RMAC). Tip-off is set for 5 p.m., in downtown Denver.
UCCS competed at the Metro State Classic in the second weekend of the nonconference season against Minnesota State and Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 22-23. Abby Kirchoff averaged 24 points on those two games and is currently ranked fifth in Division II with 24.3 points per game this season.
The Mountain Lions are coming off a solid 72-54 win at Adams State on Saturday night, where UCCS lead by double digits for a majority of the second half. The offense posted season-highs in several categories, including field goal and three-point percentage.
Sam Patterson has led UCCS in rebounding in the last two games in her return to the court since a knee injury during winter break last season. She's averaging 7.7 rebounds, six on the defensive side, in the last three games.
The Roadrunners will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak on Friday night in its first home game since the Classic three weeks ago. Metro State is one of five teams in the RMAC holding opponents to 65 points per game, and is the third-best free-throw shooting team in the nation at 82 percent.
Fans can follow the action from tonight's game with live stats, live video through America One Sports, and live audio from the UCCS USTREAM channel. M.J. Arjomandi will provide the play-by-play call for the Mountain Lions. Fans can also watch the game tonight at Clyde's, located on the lower level of the University Center. Parking will be free for the video stream.
