UCCS Opens RMAC Season at Fort Lewis
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team, the favorite to win the 2013-14 RMAC championship, will open the conference season on Friday night in Durango, Colo., at Fort Lewis. Tip-off from Whalen Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
The Mountain Lions (1-3) will compete for the first time in nearly two weeks and will look to turn the corner with the start of the conference season. UCCS faced two teams during the nonconference season who were recognized in the WBCA/USA Today NCAA Division II national polls at the time, and went to overtime with a Division I opponent during the exhibition season.
Abby Kirchoff, the RMAC Preseason Player of the Year, is No. 11 in Division II with 22.8 points per game. She is No. 11 in UCCS career records with 850 points, and needs three points to move into No. 10 in scoring records. Kirchoff is also leading UCCS with 8.3 rebounds per game and 4.3 assists per game.
The Mountain Lions have maintained a balanced rebounding effort, with four different student-athletes leading the team in rebounds in the four games this season. UCCS has outrebounded opponents in three of the four games this season and is ranked in the top third of the nation in rebounding margin.
Fort Lewis (3-1) has won its last two games against Texas Woman's and St. Edward's, and is 2-0 at home with the overtime win against St. Edward's an a season-opening win against Northern New Mexico. The Mountain Lions will be going for their first win in Durango since an 80-45 win on Jan. 27, 2001.
Fans can follow the game through live stats and live video streaming through America One Sports. The game will also be shown live in Clyde's, located on the lower level of the University Center.
