Mountain Lions Look to Continue Success into Conference Season
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team (3-1) will look to continue one of its best starts in program history when the Mountain Lions take on Fort Lewis (3-1) in the RMAC-opener for both teams tonight in Durango, Colo. Tip-off from Whalen Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Mountain Lions are on their best start since the 2007-08 season, and a win tonight would be the fourth 4-1 start in program history. The 3-1 start in the nonconference season also came while UCCS served NCAA suspensions during the first four games of the regular season.
Six Mountain Lions are averaging more than 10 points per game, led by Dalton Patten's 16.3 per game. He's also leading the team with five blocked shots, is second on the team with 65 percent shooting from the field and is third with six rebounds per game.
The UCCS defense leads the RMAC and is ranked among the top 15 in Division II, led by rebounding margin and three-point defense. The Mountain Lions have outrebounded each of its opponents by double figures for an average of 13 each game, and are holding opponents to 25.3 percent from the three-point line. UCCS also leads the conference in field goal percentage defense (40.1%) and total rebounds (184).
On the offensive side, UCCS ranks in the top 25 in the nation with an average winning margin of 18.3 points per game. In the pair of Division II games this season, the average improves to 20.5 per game.
Fort Lewis is also ranked among the nation's leads in scoring and winning margin. The Skyhawks have scored 80 points in every game this season and surpassed 100 points in the first two games of the season. Fort Lewis ranks No. 12 in Division II with an average scoring margin of 21.3 points per game and No. 18 with 93 points per game.
