Mountain Lions Open Home Season with Johnson & Wales
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs Head Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Culver will face the program that he helped build tonight when the Mountain Lions (0-0) take on Johnson & Wales of Denver (1-3) at 7:30 p.m., in the Gallogly Events Center.
Tonight will mark the beginning of the regular season and home season for the Mountain Lions, who played a pair of exhibition games against Division I Wyoming and Colorado State. The Wildcats of Johnson & Wales have already played three games in its regular season as a member of the NAIA Division II.
Culver was the athletic director and Johnson & Wales from the 2005-06 season through 2011-12. He was a three-time Association of Independent Institutions Coach of the Year and took the Wildcats to the NAIA Division II National Tournament three times.
Johnson & Wales won the only meeting between the two teams in a regular season contest on Feb. 17, 2004, but the Mountain Lions won the last meeting on Nov. 2, 2010, which was an exhibition game. UCCS won 75-67 in the Gallogly Events Center. Jordan Carter and Alan Paul were both members of the team during that game.
Derrick White enters tonight after he averaged 25.5 points in the two exhibition games. While those games who count for his career statistics, it was the first time in his collegiate career that he scored 25 or more points in back-to-back games. Since last season, he's scored at least 20 points in the last three games and at least 15 points in the last 10 games.
Fans can follow tonight's game with live stats and with live video streaming from America One Sports.
