Men Picked Ninth in RMAC Preseason Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team was picked to finish just outside the field for the conference preseason tournament with a ninth-place pick in the 2013-14 RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Derrick White, the RMAC Freshman of the Year in 2012-13, earned a spot on the All-Preseason Team.
White was a member of the Division II Bulletin All-Freshman Team after he set the UCCS single-season record for made free throws. He led RMAC freshmen in scoring and was fourth overall with 16.9 points per game. White scored 20 or more points in eight games and scored at least 15 points in the final eight games of the season.
Second year Head Coach Jeff Culver will welcome back all five starters from last season. UCCS led the RMAC in offensive rebounds and total rebounds per conference game, led by 5.9 rebounds per game from Alex Welsh. White, Welsh, Darius Pardner and Jordan Carter return after each of them shot better than 40 percent from the field in 2012-13.
The Mountain Lions open the 2013-14 season with an exhibition game at Wyoming on Oct. 31. UCCS will begin the regular season at home with Johnson & Wales on Nov. 12.
