UCCS No. 10 in First NCAA Regional Ranking
INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is ranked No. 10 in the first NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings released this afternoon. The Mountain Lions, who are third in the RMAC standings with four games remaining, are 17-5 this season and 14-4 in conference action.
UCCS is one of four RMAC teams ranked in the regional rankings, which are used by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Selection Committee to select the teams for the national tournament. Colorado Mesa is ranked first along with No. 4 Metro State and No. 8 Colorado State-Pueblo.
The Mountain Lions have clinched a spot in the RMAC Shootout and can't finish any lower than fifth in the conference standings. The top four teams will host the quarterfinal round of the Shootout on March 5.
UCCS closes out the 2012-13 regular season home schedule this weekend with a Friday night game against Chadron State and a Saturday night game against Black Hills State. Friday's "Green Night" with the UCCS Office of Sustainability and with UCCS Residence Life and Housing will help raise awareness of sustainability and recycling programs on campus. Saturday's "Pink Zone" night with the American Cancer Society and Office of Student Activities will raise awareness of cancer efforts in Colorado Springs. The Mountain Lions will also recognize their lone senior, Lauren Wolfinger, as she plays in the final regular season home game of her career.
