Mountain Lions Clinch RMAC Shootout Spot with Win at Pueblo
PUEBLO, Colo. - Abby Kirchoff led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with 13 points as the Mountain Lions (16-4 / 13-3 RMAC) picked up a 47-37 victory tonight against Colorado State-Pueblo (15-5 / 12-4 RMAC) in Massari Arena. The Mountain Lions clinched a spot in the RMAC Shootout for the second consecutive season.
The win breaks a tie between the Mountain Lions and ThunderWolves in the standings with six games left in the regular season for both teams. UCCS is in position to host a first round RMAC quarterfinal game for the second time in program history and the first time since 2002.
The Mountain Lions never trailed and opened the game with a seven-point rally. CSU-Pueblo tied the game with 6:27 left in the first half, but a nine-point UCCS rally a few minutes later provided a 28-20 lead for the Mountain Lions at halftime. UCCS shot 42 percent from the field and 44 percent from the three-point line in the opening half.
The ThunderWolves narrowed the lead to six points with 7:25 remaining in the game before the Mountain Lions scored the next eight points en route to the 10-point win at CSU-Pueblo.
Kirchoff led both teams in scoring and also brought down six rebounds. Lauren Wolfinger finished with a game-high 10 rebounds, her second-best performance of the season, along with seven points. Kellie Kreuger went five-of-nine from the field for 12 points in her fifth game this season with double-digit points.
The Mountain Lions current seven-game winning streak is tied for the second-longest in program history and is the longest since the 2000-01 season. The 16 wins are one short of the 17 wins from last season's total.
Up Next: UCCS will be back on the road next weekend for a road trip through southwest Colorado. The Mountain Lions play at Adams State on Friday and at Durango on Saturday.
