Blackout Night Returns to Gallogly Friday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The annual "Blackout" event returns to the Gallogly Events Center on Friday night when the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's basketball teams take on Western New Mexico in an RMAC doubleheader. The Mountain Lion women tip off at 5:30 p.m., with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m.
The pregame tailgate activities will begin at 4 p.m. in the renovated Berger Hall, with the UCCS Office of Student Activities and the F.I.G.H.T. Club coordinating the activities. UCCS Radio will provide entertainment and dinner will be served before rally towels and 1,000 Blackout t-shirts are distributed.
The Mountain Lion women enter Friday's game in a three-way tie for second in the RMAC standings. UCCS won the first game against Western New Mexico earlier this season 80-73 in overtime in Silver City, N.M. The Mountain Lions are on a four-game winning streak and has the second-longest winning streak in the conference behind Colorado Mesa.
The UCCS men won its first game against Western New Mexico 84-80 on Dec. 15, and will be going for back-to-back wins this season after a 92-73 win last Saturday at Chadron State. The Mountain Lions are leading the RMAC with 40.4 rebounds per conference game and Derrick White is leading conference freshmen with 16.2 points per game
Fans will be able to win gift certificates to the UCCS Bookstore during both halftime events, and the winner of a half-court contest during the men's game will also win a gaming table from Jimmy John's.
