Culver, Laster to Participate in "Suits and Sneakers" Weekend
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs Head Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Culver and Head Women's Basketball Coach Corey Laster will join coaches across the nation this weekend in the 10th Annual Suits and Sneakers Weekend. The annual event raises awareness in the fight against cancer and is sponsored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society.
Both Mountain Lion coaches will replace their dress shoes with sneakers in Friday's game at Black Hills State. Both teams will also wear their white home uniforms in support of Black Hills State's "Green Out Cancer" event, and allow the Yellow Jackets to wear their green road uniforms.
Fans can also raise funds for Coaches vs. Cancer by texting "COACH" to 20222 through April 9. In addition to a $5 donation, fans will also be entered one of several prizes, like a trip to the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic and autographed items from Division I coaches Bo Ryan (Wisconsin) and Johnny Dawkins (Stanford).
The Coaches vs. Cancer program empowers basketball and other coaches to save lives from cancer by leveraging their community leadership to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society. The sneakers help share the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing one's risk of the disease.
UCCS will be traveling to Black Hills State for the first time since the Yellow Jackets became full conference members. The women's game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m.
