White Goes for Free Throw Record This Weekend
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball freshman Derrick White begins the final weekend of the season nine free throws away from tying the all-time program record as the Mountain Lions (5-19 / 5-15 RMAC) take on Regis (5-21 / 2-20 RMAC) tonight at the Regis Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
White enters the weekend with 147 free throws this season and second in UCCS records. The record of 156 was set by Patrick Hannaway in the 2005-06 season. If White maintains his average of 5.5 made free throws per game, he would set the record. He's made at least 10 free throws in two games this season and at least nine free throws in six games.
White remains the top freshman in the RMAC with 16.8 points per game and is fifth overall in scoring. He's scored 10 or more points in 16 of the last 17 games and at least 15 points in the last six games.
