White Leads UCCS to Second Win in Last Three Games
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Derrick White scored 22 points and went 16-of-18 from the free throw line to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (4-15 / 4-11 RMAC) to its second win in the last three games in an 88-73 victory tonight against New Mexico Highlands (9-10 / 7-8 RMAC) in the Gallogly Events Center.
The Mountain Lions brought down a season-high 50 rebounds, including 21 on the offensive side that led to 20 second chance points. UCCS scored nearly half of its points, 42 of its 88 points, in the paint.
UCCS trailed by two points in the first half, 40-38, but used a 16-1 run to break away from the Cowboys with 8:53 remaining. The Mountain Lions led by as many as 19 points with 7:47 remaining.
White finished with his sixth 20-point game of the season and led five Mountain Lions who finished in double digits. Alex Welsh scored 17 points for the second straight night and Jordan Carter scored 10 or more points for the third straight game with 13. Alex Koehler and Darius Pardner both finished with 10 points, and Koehler shared the team lead with eight rebounds.
Up Next: The Mountain Lions travel to Colorado State-Pueblo next Saturday night, Feb. 9. The ThunderWolves defeated Western New Mexico 106-66 earlier tonight.
