UCCS Takes on Highlands Tonight at Home
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After a heart-breaking loss last night in the final seconds, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (3-15 / 3-11 RMAC) will look to pick up its second win in the last three games tonight against New Mexico Highlands (9-9 / 7-7 RMAC) at 7:30 p.m. in the Gallogly Events Center.
The first contest between the two teams was decided by six points in favor of the Cowboys, 77-71, in Las Vegas, N.M., on Dec. 14. The Mountain Lions led by one point, 66-65, with just under four minutes left to play. UCCS finished the night with a season-high 48 rebounds.
The Mountain Lions have averaged 75.6 points in the last nine games, compared to 60.2 points in the first nine games of the season. UCCS is also shooting 45 percent from the field in the last nine contests, an increase of five percentage points from the first half of season.
Derrick White is still leading the conference freshmen and is sixth overall with 16.1 points per game. He finished with 14 points as one of four Mountain Lions with double-digit points. Alex Welsh led UCCS with 17 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, Darius Pardner came off the bench for 13 points and Jordan Carter added 10 points with a four-of-five performance from the field.
