GOLDEN, Colo. - Derrick White led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in scoring for the seventh consecutive night and scored 20 points for the fifth time in the last six games as the Mountain Lions (2-12 / 2-8 RMAC) fell to Colorado Mines (9-5 / 6-4 RMAC) tonight 82-64 in Lockridge Arena.
After the Orediggers scored on the opening possession, UCCS scored the next seven points and took a 7-2 lead in the first three minutes. Six different Mountain Lions scored before the under-10 minute media timeout when UCCS led 15-12.
The teams tied each other six ties in the final 10 minutes of the half, with both teams taking a four-point lead once in the span. The Orediggers took their four-point advantage with 35 seconds left in the half, and Jordan Carter cut it down to two points with a layup at the buzzer to trim Mines' lead to 32-30 at the break.
The Mountain Lions cut the lead to a single point on free throws on the first possession, but Colorado Mines gradually expanded its lead throughout the rest of the half and outscored UCCS 50-34 in the second half en route to the 82-64 decision.
White finished with 20 points along with three steals and four assists. Carter led the UCCS rebounding effort for the third straight game with eight boards.
