Court Goes in for Inaugural Downtown Classic, Presented by Memorial Health
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Athletic department staff members spent the morning installing the floor for the Inaugural Downtown Classic, presented by Memorial Health, a part of University of Colorado Health, at the Colorado Springs City Auditorium. George Egan of USA Volleyball, along with the parents of one staff member, worked alongside the University of Colorado Colorado Springs staff members to install the temporary playing surface.
The SportCourt system used a series of interlocking boards to create the playing surface on top of the floor at the Auditorium, rented from USA Volleyball. The main floor will still be wide enough to accommodate benches and game administration on the east side of the arena and a generous walking path to sponsor boxes on the west side.
The installation of the baskets and rims from the Air Force Academy, the lines and the scoreboard system are scheduled to be in place in time for the first Mountain Lion practices on Thursday evening.
The Inaugural Downtown Classic, presented by Memorial Health, a part of University of Colorado Health, will raise funds for the eventual renovation of the historic Colorado Springs City Auditorium at 221 East Kiowa. Tickets are still available at GoMountainLions.com.
