Wolfinger’s Big Night Powers UCCS to their Third Home Conference Win this Season

By Alex Cramer published December 8, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Lauren Wolfinger scored a business like 22 points for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (5-2 / 3-1 RMAC) in a 68-54 win over Regis (2-5 / 1-2 RMAC) at the Gallogly Events Center Friday evening.

UCCS controlled from the start leading 35-16 at halftime.

The second-half was not as kind to the Mountain Lions but 34 points in the paint as a team were more than enough for a UCCS win on this night.

Defense was big for the Mountain Lions who held Regis to a season low of 26.9 percent in the game. The previous low was 27.5 percent set earlier this season against Northern New Mexico on Nov. 17.

Jeri Pikul led the defensive effort with three steals.

Wolfinger also cracked the UCCS top 10 all-time 3-pointers made category with her three 3-pointers in the game. Her new career total sits at 104.

Carrie Christopher came up just shy of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds for the Mountain Lions. Her teammate Abby Kirchoff almost managed a double-double herself with nine points and seven rebounds of her own.

Tae'lor Purdy was the high-point contributor for the Rangers with 14 points.

Up Next: The UCCS Mountain Lions will travel to New Mexico next weekend as they take on New Mexico Highlands (3-1 / 3-5 RMAC) on Friday night and Western New Mexico (0-4 /1-7 RMAC) on Saturday night.
