COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team (0-8 / 0-4 RMAC) will start its final road trip of the fall semester when the Mountain Lions take on New Mexico Highlands (3-4 / 1-3 RMAC) tonight at the John A . Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, N.M.
The Mountain Lions are asserting themselves as one of the top rebounding teams in the RMAC, with a rebounding margin of +6.3 and a rebounding average of 41.2. Both of those marks rank second in the conference through the first two weekends of the RMAC season. Alex Welsh is leading that effort for UCCS with 8.3 rebounds per conference game.
On the offensive side, UCCS has shot 40 percent or better from the field in four of the last five games and 44 percent overall in that span. The Mountain Lions shot 50 percent in last Saturday's game against Regis, led by Jordan Carter's eight-of-nine performance against the Rangers. He's scored more than 10 points in the last two and is shooting 59 percent from the field over the last three games.
New Mexico Highlands will be coming into tonight's game on a three-game losing streak, but is the second-most accurate team in the conference from beyond the three-point line. The Cowboys have five student-athletes, all playing significantly during the season, shooting 40 percent or better, led by Dominick Baca's 58 percent.
