UCCS Begins RMAC Schedule Friday Night in Gallogly
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After a tough non-conference schedule with two nationally-ranked teams and two more teams coming off of national playoffs berth, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs begins the 2012-13 RMAC men's basketball season tonight when the Mountain Lions (0-4) host Fort Lewis (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. in the Gallogly Events Center.
UCCS is playing at home for the first time since a 75-70 victory against Northern New Mexico to start the exhibition season on Oct. 25. It's the same team that the Skyhawks have earned two of their three victories against this season.
Through the first four games of the season, the Mountain Lions are recording their best scoring defense for the start of a season in more than 20 years. Both UCCS and Fort Lewis are nearly even in scoring defense during the non-conference season, but the Mountain Lions will be tested tonight with the RMAC's second-best scoring offense team.
UCCS is coming off its best scoring offensive performance of the season so far in a 69-66 loss to San Francisco State last Saturday night. Three Mountain Lions reached double-digit points, led by Derrick White's 18 points, and the team shot 51 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line. The 11 three-pointers in the game were the most for the Mountain Lions since Jan. 27, and the three-point percentage was the best when making at least 10 shots since Dec. 31, 2011.
Darius Pardner earned a spot on the All-Mac Martin Invitational Team last weekend after he averaged 14 points and 2.5 steals. He's seventh in the conference with nine steals this season and is and second on the team in scoring. Pardner has started the last 24 games for the Mountain Lions since dating back to Dec. 9, 2011.
Fans can also get additional information at tonight's game about the Ent UCCS Basketball Booster Club during the game in the Skybox. The booster club helps support the Mountain Lion student-athletes with additional benefits available only to members throughout the season.
Tonight's game will be available live on television in Colorado Springs on Comcast Channel 20. Fans not in Colorado Springs can still watch the same feed on America One Networks. Live stats from tonight's game will be available for free.
