White Scores Season-High 18 in Close Decision with San Francisco State
CHICO, Calif. - Derrick White scored a season-high 18 points and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (0-4) shot 51 percent from the field as the Mountain Lions fell on the short end of a 69-66 decision to San Francisco State (2-2) tonight in the Carl Jr.'s Mac Martin Invitational.
UCCS held a 39-31 halftime lead and posted its best first half scoring defense of the season. Alex Koehler led both teams with 12 points at the break and made four of the eight Mountain Lion three-pointers in the half
Darius Pardner scored the final five points in a seven-point Mountain Lion rally late in the half helped lead to the eight-point advantage for UCCS at the period. The Mountain Lions shot 54 percent from the field and 53 percent from the three-point line for the best offensive half of the season.
UCCS maintained a lead through the first nine minutes of the second half until San Francisco State claimed its first lead of the half with 10:44 left in the game. The two teams tied five times in the final 10 minutes of the game and neither team held a lead of more than a possession through the remainder of the game. The Mountain Lions trailed 64-63 with 1:13 left, but the Gators converted on free throws in the final minute to secure the game.
White's 18-point performance was the best for a Mountain Lion this season and he added a team-high five rebounds. Pardner finished with 14 points for the second straight night along with two steals.
Up Next: UCCS begins the RMAC season next Friday, Nov. 30, against Fort Lewis at 7:30 p.m. in the Gallogly Events Center. The Skyhawks went 3-0 during their non-conference schedule with two victories against Northern New Mexico.
