UCCS Takes on Second-Nationally Ranked Team in a Week Tonight
For the second time in as many games, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (0-2) will take on a nationally-ranked opponent when the Mountain Lions compete against No. 16 Chico State (1-0) tonight in the Carl Jr.'s Mac Martin Invitational. UCCS takes on the defending California Collegiate Athletic Association champions at 8:30 p.m. MST.
The Mountain Lions played then-No. 7 Winona State in their last outing last Saturday, and were within a possession of the Warriors within the final minute. Derrick White led UCCS in scoring and blocked shots in both games last weekend and averaged 14 points and 2.5 blocked shots.
UCCS is leading the RMAC and is second in the South Central Region with 6.5 blocked shots per game, and is facing a team that blocked seven shots in its only regular season game. The Wildcats blocked seven shots in a 70-35 win against Pacifica, a USCAA Division I team, last Saturday night.
The Mountain Lions are also leading the RMAC in free-throw percentage, along with Regis, with 85 percent from the line. White is one of 11 conference student-athletes to be perfect at the line this season (eight-of-eight).
Fans can follow tonight's game through live stats from Chico State, or follow live audio from the Chico State radio partners.
