White Leads Mountain Lions in Season-Opener Against Bemidji State

Derrick White led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots as the Mountain Lions (0-1) dropped a 76-49 decision to Bemidji State (1-0) in the season-opener for both teams in the NSIC/RMAC Challenge today at Winona State. The Mountain Lions kept it a two-possesion contest during the first nine minutes of the game against the defending NSIC regular season champions. Alex Koehler and Darius Parnder both led UCCS during the early stretch of the game with six points each, with Koehler connecting on both of his shots from beyond the three-point line. The Mountain Lions added six points in transition offense, but trailed to the Beavers 40-28 at halftime.

UCCS scored the first four points of the second half to cut the deficit to eight points. Jordan Carter recorded a dunk 49 seconds into the half and converted on the free throw attempt after the Mountain Lions earned possession off a Bemidji State turnover. White scored 10 of his 14 points during the second half and went a perfect four-for-four at the free throw line for the Mountain Lions.

White led three Mountain Lions who finished with double figures, with Pardner and Alex Welsh both with 10 points by the end of the night. Five Mountain Lions contributed to eight team blocks as Kyle Clark added two blocks behind White's three.
