Tip-Off Basketball Season with Mountain Lion Madness Tuesday Night
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's basketball teams will tip-off the 2012-13 basketball season with fans on Tuesday night for the first Mountain Lion Madness event at the Gallogly Events Center. Doors open at 9:45 p.m. with the official lineup of events starting at 10 p.m.
UCCS students will be eligible to participate in various basketball-related contests, including a half-court shot for a grand prize. The Mountain Lion men's basketball team will compete in a slam dunk contest, with the crowd awarding the winner through its noise level. The women's basketball team will also compete in a three-point contest as a way for the community to meet the 2012-13 teams.
The UCCS cheerleaders and Clyde the Mountain Lion will entertain the crowd throughout the night. Both head basketball coaches and Athletic Director Steve Kirkham will give a short preview to the season.
The men's basketball team will open the 2012-13 season with an exhibition contest against Northern New Mexico on Oct. 25 in the GalloglyEvents. Center. The women's basketball team will travel to Alamosa, Colo., to start its season on Nov. 16 and open at home against Fort Lewis on Nov. 30.
The first Mountain Lion Madness event follows the model of similar "Madness" events held throughout the country to mark the start of official practices for college basketball. UCCS official practices begin on Oct. 15.
