Mountain Lion's rally not enough

COLORADO SPRINGS - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs was unable to defend their home court Saturday night as they lost to the Chadron State Eagles 78-73 at the Gallogly Events Center.

Basketball is often a game of runs and that was definitely evident in this contest as both teams took turns going on substantial runs.

Chadron State got the running started in the first-half as they went on a 12-2 spurt that saw them go ahead 32-22 at the 4:57 mark. UCCS then answered back with a 7-0 run to close out the first-half making the score 40-36 Eagles advantage.

Jeff Isaac continued his strong play this home stand with 15 first-half points to go with five rebounds in the early going.

The second-half looked indistinguishable at times from the first-half as neither team could seize control of the game. Runs by both teams dictated play yet again.

However, a 13-3 run by the Eagles to end the game ultimately was the difference.

A barrage of late 3-pointers by Alex Koehler and Darius Pardner provided the final margin.

Isaac and Matt Heydman both fell a couple of rebounds shy of double-double's as they each collected eight rebounds to go along with 19 and 18 points respectively.

Kevin McClelland (17), Chris Curtis (17) and Moala Tautuaa (15) were the leading scorers for the Chadron state who improved to 5-12 overall and 5-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The win was the first road victory for the Eagles this season.

UCCS meanwhile slides to 7-12 overall and 6-7 in the RMAC.
