Preseason coaches' poll tabs UCCS women for ninth place
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team was picked to finish ninth out of fourteen teams by the RMAC preseason coaches' poll. No UCCS player was selected for the RMAC's preseason all-conference team.
The coaches ranked conference teams from 1-14, omitting their own team. The points were then added to determine the predicted finish with the lowest point total being the top pick. Fort Lewis, coming off a tremendous 28-3 season and returning preseason all-conference selection (Dana Schreibvogel) was the top pick by RMAC coaches with 17 points. Metro State was tabbed to take second overall with 26 points.
Those two leaders were followed by Colorado Christian (55), Colorado Mesa (60), CSU-Pueblo (74), Nebraska-Kearney (75), Adams State (81), and Western State (96).
Then was UCCS at the number nine spot with 109 points followed by Regis (120), Colorado Mines (121), Chadron State (139), New Mexico Highlands (139), and Western New Mexico (169).
UCCS returns with a strong core as seven of last years players are returning including all five starters. Lauren Wolfinger, Jessica Brown, Danielle Brown, Ashley Miller, Sammi Gentile, Jeri Pikul, and Payden Ackerman all return to the Mountain Lion roster this season. An eighth player, Lauryn Near, was on the roster but redshirted.
The Mountain Lions will play an exhibition game against Division I Air Force on Wednesday. The Mountain Lions first home game will be on November 19th against West Texas A&M.
