DURANGO, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs made 14 3-pointers but couldn't keep the Fort Lewis Skyhawks off the foul line in an 84-73 defeat Friday evening at Whalen Gymnasium.

The Mountain Lions were outscored 21-1 at the foul line as Fort Lewis did a better job forcing the ball inside. The Skyhawks were 21-of-24 from the foul line while UCCS was a dismal 1-for-6.

Walk-ons George Pollard and Alex Koehler started for UCCS (1-6, 0-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) and led the team with 18 and 17 points respectively. Pollard was 6-of-13 on 3-pointers and Koehler was 5-of-7. As a team, UCCS was 14-for-29 (48.3 percent).

The 14 treys were the second most ever by a UCCS men's basketball team and had been accomplished three other times, the most recent on March 3, 2009 against Metro State. The school record for 3-pointers in a game is 15, which was done against Western New Mexico on Dec. 13, 2008.

Pollard and Damar Hill each had six assists for the Mountain Lions, while Matt Heydman grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

Josh Cassaday led five Skyhawks in double figures with 19 points. Matt Morris grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds as Fort Lewis improved to 3-2, 1-0 RMAC.

The Mountain Lions made nine of their 12 3-point attempts in the first half as UCCS went into the intermission trailing 45-42.

Leading 59-55, the Skyhawks went on a 10-point run, seven of which were scored by Cassaday, top go up 69-55 with 11:15 remaining. UCCS never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.
