Division I Weber State hands UCCS exhibition loss
OGDEN, Utah - Matt Heydman had 13 points as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team opened its season with a 101-55 exhibition loss to the NCAA Division I Webeer State Wildcats Monday evening at Dee Events Center.
Jeff Isaac added 10 points for the Mountain Lions, who will play another Division I opponent, Boise State, on Tuesday.
The Mountain Lions struggled with Weber State's speed and athleticism early Monday, committing eight turnovers in the first 6:30. Those giveaways helped the Wildcats score nine straight points to take an 11-2 lead. UCCS acclimated, committing just six turnovers the rest of the period and eight in the second half.
After shooting just 27.8 percent from the field in the first half, the Mountain Lions came back to hit 52 percent of their shots in the second.
But that wasn't enough to close the gap on Weber State, which were the preseason pick in the coaches' poll to win the Big Sky Conference. Kyle Bullinger led five Wildcats in double figures with 17 points.
Sophomore Jordan Carter and freshman Darius Pardner each added nine points for UCCS, while Carter also grabbed a game-high six rebounds.
