Kirchoff sisters added to women's basketball's impressive recruiting class
Corey Laster's first recruiting class as the coach of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball program got even stronger and deeper with the announcement Monday of the addition of Anna and Abby Kirchoff.
Abby was the Mid-Suburban West Player of the Year this past season as a senior at Barrington High School in Illinois. The 5-foot-11 guard ranks fifth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,272 points over a three-year varsity career. This past season, she averaged 15 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.6 steals while shooting 42 percent from the field and 84 percent from the foul line.
"She is big guard who has played at the point position," said Laster. "She has the ability to pass off the dribble, get out in transition and hit the 3. She has unlimited potential on the floor.
"It is very special that she has the opportunity to have her older sister as she begins her career. She played at the top high school level in Illinois and will be a good guard in the RMAC as she moves forward."
The duo played one season of high school basketball together for the Fillies when ABBY was a sophomore and Anna was a senior. Their brother, Aaron, played football at the Air Force Academy and now lives in Colorado Springs, just 15 minutes from the UCCS campus.
Anna, a 5-foot-9 guard, played this past season at Harper Community College in Palatine, Ill. and averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.7 assists per game while converting on 35 percent of her 3-pointers. As a freshman, she accounted for 13.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
"She is a physical tough defender that has the ability to hit 3 ball," said Laster. She is a leaders on and off the court for Harper College. Anna is an excellent student and can play multiple positions. She will fit right in with our returning players."
