Women's basketball adds high-scoring Californian
COLORADO SPRINGS - University of Colorado at Colorado Springs basketball coach Corey Laster announced Wednesday that he had received a National Letter of Intent from 5-foot-11 guard Kassie Stratton out of Estancia High School in Orange County, Calif.
Stratton was the Orange Coast League MVP this past season after averaging 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists per game. Her team won its league title for the first time in eight years in 2010-11, going 21-7 overall and 10-0 in league play.
As a junior, Stratton was the Daily Pilot Dream Team Player of the Year after averaging 19 points per game. During the season, she scored a career high 48 points in the Eagles' 73-61 upset victory over Bolsa Grande. She was a first-team All-Orange Coast League selection in each of her four years at Estancia.
"Kassie is a very strong offensive player; she has been a leader for her high school program for years," said Laster. "She has the ability to stretch the defense and the size to be a very difficult matchup. I have been impressed with her personal growth over her high school career and love for the game. We are super happy to have her. She is another strong student who is serious about her academics."
