Women's basketball signs Texas forward

By Chris Spomer published April 26, 2011

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's basketball coach Corey Laster announced Tuesday that he had received a National Letter of Intent from Westwood High School (Texas) forward Sierra Henry.

"Sierra is an athletic guard post type who can fill many different roles," said Coach Laster on the new recruit. "She has the potential to defend both positions and is very good athlete who can get out and run in transition."

Henry averaged 13.9 points per game for the Panthers in her senior season while also grabbing 5.8 rebounds per game and swiping 1.0 steal per game. Her most complete game as a senior came against Madisonville (Texas) on Jan. 1, 2011 as she recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, eight of which were on the offensive end. Her career high in points was 27 against Palestine (Texas) as a junior.

"She is someone who is a track athlete and will be a tremendous help to our overall team defense," said Laster. "She is a terrific student and will be a great addition to our program."

A four year letter winner in basketball and track, Henry earned First Team All-District honors along with being named the District MVP. In track, Henry qualified for regionals all four years and made the finals a junior and senior in both the 400 meter dash and 4x400 m relay.
