Mountain Lion Men Knocked Off by Fort Lewis
DURANGO - Kyle Behrens had 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Fort Lewis Skyhawks to a 73-55 victory over the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Saturday evening at Whalen Gymnasium.
Fort Lewis improved to 17-5 overall, 13-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. UCCS dropped to 7-15, 5-12 RMAC.
The Mountain Lions were outrebounded 45-36 and outscored 28-16 at the foul line. Otherwise, the stat sheet indicated a closer game than what was.
DeAndre Lansdowne added 12 points and Matt Billups 11 for Fort Lewis.
Brent Jones led UCCS with 13 points and four blocked shots. Ben Feilmeier added 10 points, while Rob Howe had nine points and a team-best seven rebounds. Damar Hill had a game-high four assists.
An eight-point run, four by Behrens, allowed Fort Lewis to turn a 16-13 UCCS lead into a 21-16 advantage of its own. The Skyhawks would never trail again.
UCCS stayed close through the first half of the second period. After a 3-pointer by Feilmeier with 11:49, the Mountain Lions looked to be in a position to make a run, trailing just 41-36.
The run came, but by the Skyhawks. Fort Lewis 12 of the next 13 points to push the advantage to 16 with 7:22 remaining.
Seventeen second later, UCCS coach Russ Caton was whistled for two technical fouls within seconds of each other and ejected.
