Jones Named Player of the Week, First from UCCS in Over Two Years
Brent Jones accomplished Monday something no University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's basketball player had done in over two years.
He was named one of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference players of the week.
Jones was named the RMAC's defensive player of the week as the Mountain Lions swept its annual two-game Nebraska road swing for the first time in school history. While Jones led UCCS with 19 points per game for the week, it was his team-high 16 rebounds (12 defensive rebounds) and three blocks that set the defensive tone for the Mountain Lions.
In two road wins, UCCS held its opponents to 44.4 percent shooting and just 26.9 percent on 3-pointers. All three of Jones' steals on the weekend came at Chadron State and two of his three blocked shots on the weekend were against the Lopers.
The last UCCS player to be named player of the week was Nick Weaver, who earned that honor on Jan. 19, 2009.
Jones leads the Mountain Lions in scoring with 14.9 points per game and in rebounding at 6.3 per game. Those numbers rank him seventh and ninth in the RMAC respectively.
