SILVER CITY, N.M. - Lauren Wolfinger scored 18 points to lead the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to a 63-48 victory over the Western New Mexico Mustangs Saturday evening at Drag's Court.

Wolfinger was 6-of-11 from the field, including 4-for-6 on 3-pointers. The rest of the Mountain Lions went a combined 0-for-12 on 3-pointers.

Jessica Brown added 11 points for UCCS, which improved to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Brown also had three steals and matched Ashley Miller and Jeri Pikul with three assists. Miller also had a team-best nine rebounds.

The Mountain Lions were awarded only five free throws through the first 37 minutes, 51 seconds. They had eight attempts over the final 2:09 as Western New Mexico fouled to preserve the clock.

Morgan Wohltman led Western New Mexico (0-10, 0-6 RMAC) with 12 points. Kristina Barr had a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Mustangs were leading 18-17 after a Wohltman layup with 8:47 left in the first half. UCCS responded as a 3-pointer by Wolfinger and a conventional three-point play by Miller started a 12-2 run that gave the Mountain Lions a 29-20 lead with 2:14 left. UCCS went into the intermission leading 29-23.

The gap was still six with 12:51 remaining when the Mountain Lions put together an 11-3 run, the final five scored by Wolfinger, to take a commanding 51-37 lead at the 7:31 mark. The advantage swelled to as many as 17 as UCCS coasted to the win.

The Mountain Lions will be idle over the holidays, resuming on Jan. 3 against Colorado State-Pueblo at the Gallogly Events Center.
