Mountain Lions sign Patterson to NLI
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's basketball coach Corey Laster announced Wednesday the signing of Peyton High School center Sam Patterson to a National Letters of Intent. The 6-foot forward/center will join the Mountain Lions for the 2011-12 season.
Patterson led the state (all classifications) with 6.1 blocked shots per game as a junior in 2009-10. She also averaged 11.6 rebounds, 16.1 points, 2.5 steals and 1.6 assists per game.
"Sam is a very polished athlete who runs the floor and plays post for her high school," said Darrow Fontera, Patterson's club coach with the Colorado Heat. "Her timing on blocks is exceptional and she is a very strong post player with great footwork."
The MVP and Defensive Player of the Year for the Peyton Panthers, Patterson was an all-Tri-Peaks League selection as both a sophomore and a junior. She also received all-conference recognition in volleyball and track, where she competed in the high jump and the triple jump.
